as suggested by Max Staudt in comment 42 in bug 1047307, I report this issue
here, he said that's a GNOME issue: On the external monitor (non-HiDPI) scaling
is too big. Internal monitor of the laptop is 4k (HiDPI). GNOME does not adjust
scaling to the individual screen regarding HiDPI (or not).

device FYI: 15" laptop HP Pavilion 15-bc094nz, i7-6700HQ, NVIDIA GTX 960M, 3840
