The fix for my system(s) is to revert the core_pattern setting to 'core', but I opened this report to point out that the current setting is a poor default for openSUSE.
Well that's your own feelings but it's not shared by every one: having all coredumps stored at one single place (that can be automatically cleaned up after a couple of days BTW) is probably appreciated by sysadmins. And as you already noticed you can still switch to the old coredump generation mechanism.
For unprivileged users it should be: A core dump is disabled by default (as it used to be).
Indeed, this has been fixed since v229 but the the fix has not been backported to the older versions. I'll open a new bug for it.
When it is enabled with ulimit, a core dump is placed in the working directory, subject to applicable quotas.
I'm afraid systemd currently doesn't support the "put the coredumps in the current working dir for regular users only". You can request this feature to upstream but we (downstream) won't do that, sorry. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
