Seems like this was fixed in the kernel update 4.10.1-1-default #1 SMP PREEMPT
I now get a lot of these:
nouveau 0000:01:00.0: imem: PRAMIN exhausted
Found that there is a bug in upstream already:

Github shows the patch to be in kernel v4.10-rc1 already:

So 4.10.1-1-default #1 SMP PREEMPT fixes it for me.
