Fix committed to devel:gcc (whenever GCC and binutils do not agree on the target it ends up not working). Changed avr-suse-linux to avr, so it will then be avr-gcc-6. This then "works" and results in
Yes, it works for avr then. Does it also work for armv7? It changes the name of the compiler so I will have to update my integration script which symlinks all the gcc pieces so you can actually compile with it.
There is cross-arm-gcc6 where it should work (cross-armv7hl-gcc6 and cross-armv6hl will not work).
For armv5/armv6/armv7 it is not an option to rename the compiler. What would probably work is installing the binutils and related gcc in same prefix (eg /opt/cross/arm) so the fallback is the correct cross-assembler.
