http://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1002172 Bug ID: 1002172 Summary: Gbit ethernet over USB with rt8152 / cdc_ether module functions erratically on asus UX301 laptop Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Distribution Version: Leap 42.1 Hardware: Other OS: Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel Assignee: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com Reporter: rens.groenewegen@xs4all.nl QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- Created attachment 695210 --> http://bugzilla.suse.com/attachment.cgi?id=695210&action=edit dmesg / hwinfo / lsusb /lsmod log files the Gbit USB ethernet that comes with asus UX301 laptop (core i7, 5th generation) is giving problems with being detected. see attached logfiles. Sometimes it works as should ( plug it in, get ethernet interface, etc ) but usually it does not. FOr this test, the laptop was cleanly booted. there are two USB ports. without having a sd card in the SD card reader, it is almost impossible to get the ethernet to be detected properly. I noticed that the sd card reader resets, whenever the Gbit usb is plugged in I inserted the Gbit USB a few times on both slots, without result. I removed and modprobed the relevant modules, to no avail ( rt8521, usbnet, cdc_ether, mii ) modprobing the cdc_ether works correctly, but does not detect the Gbit USB. only after making the laptop sleep (by closing the lid) and then opening it again, the driver was properly initiated and the gbit USB ethernet functional. hope this helps, best Rens -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
