http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=997757 Bug ID: 997757 Summary: fstrim takes almost an hour, starves other IO-bound processes Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Tumbleweed Version: Current Hardware: x86-64 OS: SUSE Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel Assignee: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com Reporter: robert.munteanu@gmail.com QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- (Not sure if a dupe of #975966 so filing a separate bug) With kernel 4.7.2-1-default, util-linux-2.28.1-1.1.x86_64. A fstrim -a call takes almost one hour. I noticed this due to almost continuous disk LED activity and very sluggish response from the machine. top reveals that one core is blocked on disk I/O ( I assume due to fstrim ). # time fstrim -a -v | tee fstrim.log /var/lib/libvirt/images: 191.5 GiB (205584908288 bytes) trimmed /var/lib/named: 191 GiB (205059239936 bytes) trimmed /var/crash: 191 GiB (205009600512 bytes) trimmed /var/opt: 191 GiB (205010173952 bytes) trimmed /var/tmp: 191 GiB (205010173952 bytes) trimmed /opt: 191 GiB (205010173952 bytes) trimmed /.snapshots: 191 GiB (205010595840 bytes) trimmed /var/spool: 191 GiB (205010599936 bytes) trimmed /var/log: 191 GiB (205010833408 bytes) trimmed /var/lib/pgsql: 191 GiB (205010911232 bytes) trimmed /var/lib/mailman: 191 GiB (205011480576 bytes) trimmed /var/lib/mariadb: 190.9 GiB (204985495552 bytes) trimmed /srv: 190.9 GiB (204926283776 bytes) trimmed /var/cache: 190.9 GiB (204931469312 bytes) trimmed /tmp: 190.9 GiB (204931657728 bytes) trimmed /var/lib/machines: 190.9 GiB (204932718592 bytes) trimmed /boot/grub2/i386-pc: 190.9 GiB (204932718592 bytes) trimmed /var/lib/mysql: 190.9 GiB (204932718592 bytes) trimmed /boot/grub2/x86_64-efi: 190.9 GiB (204932771840 bytes) trimmed /usr/local: 190.9 GiB (204933304320 bytes) trimmed /: 190.9 GiB (204933304320 bytes) trimmed real 57m5.413s user 0m0.012s sys 0m7.704s The drive in question is Model=INTEL SSDSC2BW240A3, FwRev=400i, SerialNo=CVCV3263017S240CGN. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
