--- Comment #18 from Romário Rios
The log file you've provided shows that the system was booted with 'nomodeset'. That's because it is the logfile from the last successful boot then. Is there any way I can get an X log file from something other than the last successful boot?
How did this nomodeset get in there? I put it there. It's the first step on working around the issue whenever it happens, as I mentioned in comment #10.
Anyway, this is getting nowhere. Each time I get to see your comments to this bug report, my computer will be in a different state, rendering your recommendations invalid. Are you available on IRC? The best option is for me to ping you on IRC in a time we're both available and let you walk me through the boot process so that you can know what happens in real time and I can properly get you the info you need. In any case, I'll try to answer some of the questions from comment #11: (In reply to Egbert Eich from comment #11)
- Is there a chance that [reinstalling the driver] recreate the initrd for whatever reason?
Probably not.
- Did you make several boot attempts when the hang occurred?
Yes.
- Next time when you get a hang, please edit the kernel command line in grub2 and remove the 'splash=silent' and 'quiet' so there is a slight chance to get some insight in what happened right before the hang.
When a hang happens, one of two things can happen if I remove those kernel options: 1 - The system boots successfully 2 - The screen goes blank and the boot hangs again Neither option gives us any insight. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
