The orignal patch I had submitted a few years back to ncurses upstream was able
to switch on demand at runtime into reentrant mode if the program linked with
libncurses had also been linked with libpthread (done with a check for weak
symbols like pthread_sigmask, see NEWS at 20080816). Unfortunately this
feature had become dropped and now ncurses can only handly this at build time.
I guess the method of checking for weak symbols had become very complicated and
therefore now we face more libraries now.
