--- Comment #10 from Takashi Iwai
If I plug the headphone jack right in, it switches the speakers off but I get no sound from the headphones. I do get distorted sound through the head[phones if I push the jack part way in, but this is as quiet as the sound I get from the speakers and they don't turn off. I suspect that this is sound from the speakers coming through the headphones.
When I plug in the headphones the "Surround" and the "S/PDIF" switches automatically mute in alsamixer and the red and white colours disappear from above the "Master" switch. When I remove the jack, the "Surround" switch automatically unmutes, but not the "S/PDIF" switch.
Does this make sense to you?
Not really but to understand that the routing is really messed up and doesn't match with what the driver expects :)
AS far as the chip is concerned, you say there is little hope for it being supported. Does this mean that sound will never work on this machine? Or are there possible workarounds?
I can't say exactly at this moment. The contact with Creative is somehow lost, and they don't seem care much. So, the hope is very small. One thing you might try is to load snd-hda-intel module with model=generic. For example, try to boot with snd_hda_intel.model=generic boot option. I don't expect that it works as is, but let's give it a try, at least.
I'm just wondering whether to try the alternative kernel you suggest. I'm still puzzled as to what OBS is, but, if I know, I'd at least give it a try. The machine was expensive and I'd rather not have the sound not working if there’s at all a possibility.
OBS means OpenSUSE Build Service. All openSUSE packages are built there. The packages can be downloaded from OBS repo, typically published via HTML under http://download.opensuse.org/repositories. For OBS Kernel:stable repo, it's available in http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/Kernel:/stable/standard/ -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
