A crash like this should be reported by 'coredumpctl' as well - which should
allow you to produce a back trace in order to find a possible cause for it:

"coredumpctl" shows you the tasks that crashed and created a log (look a the
ones of gnome-shell marked with a *, note down the PID)

coredumpctl gdb pid
will start the debugger

It will likely come up with messages like:
Missing separate debuginfos, use zypper install ...-debuginfo

-> follow the instruction and install the missing debuginfo packages, then
restart the proecess.

once it's complete, at the (gdb) prompt, type:
thread apply all bt full

and paste the output here (if it complains about more debuginfo missing,
install those as well before pasting the output)
