I have fetched the sane-backends from the Tumbleweed distribution and installed
it. And I have confirmed that /usr/lib64/sane/libsane-hp3900.so points to the
1.0.25 version of the file.
Unfortunately, this has not fixed the problem. I am unable to configure the
scanner with YaST even though "hewlett packard scanjet..." is listed on the
scanner configuration page. "sane-find-scanner" finds it without problem, and
scanimage works if I specify the device precisely with
scanimage -d "hp3900:libusb:001:004" -v >/tmp/scan.jpg
xsane says "no devices available".
