Somehow I cannot find specifications at Dell but I found
http://www.added-dimension.co.uk/ExpertNotes/2010/Dell/Printers/DELL%201130N...
that reads (excerpt):
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dell 1130 and Dell 1130n laser printers
...
Print languages and fonts
1130: SPL (GDI)
1130n: SPL (GDI), PCL 5e, PCL 6, Epson/IBM emulation
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
The "Dell 1130 laser printer" is a so called GDI printer, cf.
https://en.opensuse.org/SDB:GDI_Printers
and that is also shown at
http://www.openprinting.org/printer/Dell/Dell-1130
When Dell's "SPL" is actually the Samsung Printer Language
then the SpliX driver might work.
But the "Dell 1130" is not listed at
http://splix.ap2c.org/
which indicates that the SpliX driver does not work for that model.
openSUSE provides the SpliX driver in the RPM package "splix"
that has PPD files for "Dell 1100" and "Dell 1110"
but none for the "Dell 1130".
In comment#0 you wrote "1110 does not work on Dell 1130".
I guess you tried the SpliX driver for the "Dell 1110"
but that one does really not work on the "Dell 1130".
This proves again what is told about GDI printers in
https://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Printer_buying_guide
In contrast the "Dell 1130n laser printer" supports the
standard printer languages PCL5e and PCL6 so that
various generic PCL5e and PCL6 drivers should work, cf.
https://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Purchasing_a_Printer_and_Compatibility
and
https://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Printer_buying_guide
In general regarding including printer driver software in openSUSE see
https://build.opensuse.org/project/show/Printing
(excerpt):
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Of course only really free software can be
accepted in the "Printing" project.
In particular printer driver software which
is not 100% free software cannot be accepted
regardless how nice it would be when this
or that awkward printer model would work.
We will not risk any legal issue for openSUSE
and SUSE Linux Enterprise and our users and
contributors when software where the legal state
is not clear would be accepted.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thomas Williams,
what exactly do you mean with "installing Red Hat driver"?
Does Red Hat / Fedora provide a RPM package with a free driver
for the "Dell 1130"? If yes, what is the exact RPM package name?
Or did you download and install a driver from Dell
that is intended for Red Hat but also works on openSUSE?
