I meant just a normal kernel boot log. Not at the shutdown. It should show whether which ACPI S-levels are supported on your machine.
The only possibility that the kernel does halt instead of poweroff is when ACPI doesn't support S5. In this case, it tries at its best -- calling halt instead of the requested poweroff.
So I propose I'll write a kernel module switching to S5 and see if this also works unreliably on my computer. I need your help - what public kernel call switches to S5, in other words, what is the line of code in a kernel module to switch to S5?
