BTRFS is not a traditional file system. I personally do not use it,
but AFAIK it can be configured more like LVM with several physical
sources and logical mounts. Per design, the values returned by
the statfs() system call seem to be the ones for the whole BTRFS file
system including metadata. Therefore, the values shown by df(1) are
usually quite high.
The only thing which could be done there is to invoke some BTRFS code to
get more "correct" values for BTRFS file systems, but we haven't taken this
step upstream yet. We are aware that there are several bug reports for
this, but a) this has been introduced by BTRFS designers, and b) we don't
have any file system specific code in df(1) until now.
