Things are looking good now! I would really like to thank everyone involved in
bringing this functionality back to openSUSE.
Many times, issues with printing are not regarded to be of any importance...
e.g. printing functionality in KDE/QT is A JOKE to be honest (but that's out of
scope).
I have one final question: Should't the functionality of "samba-krb-printing"
be the **default** samba printing procedure, instead of optional?
AFAIK, the 'default' smb backend of cups is simply a link to the 'smbclient'
binary of samba. CUPS runs the smb backend as root.
The only thing 'samba-krb-printing' does is run the 'smbclient' in the context
of the user that issued the print job (if possible), so that 'smbclient'
automatically picks up any user KRB tickets available for the print server. If
credentials for the print server are given with the URL in the CUPS
printers.conf, those are used primarily.
So from my (basic) understanding of the process of SMB printing, this context
switch can only beneficial (by providing user credentials, if needed) but never
detrimental (because default behavior still works).
