I'm not really interested in twiddling the default configuration to match
someone's idea of what "modern" hardware requires. Not everyone uses modern
hardware.
If a configuration needs to be changed to match hardware, then it is probably
the wrong sort of configuration. It is much better to create a new
configuration option that applies more universally. If I update the default
for that current (poorly designed) option, that removes the incentive for
anyone to create a new better configuration.
I'm also not very keen on /etc/sysctl* for configuring modules - what do you do
if the module is loaded after 'sysctl' is run?
We currently have a horrible hack in 'nfsserver' and 'nfs' init scripts. I
don't want the same horror in mdraid.
So I still think that sysconfig is the best option. Why don't you like it?
