https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=851991 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=851991#c0 Summary: Boot fails afte upgrade from 12.3 to 13.1 because disks are renamed Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 13.1 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 13.1 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: claude.diderich@sigmadream.com QAContact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:25.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/25.0 System under 12.3 /dev/sda1 : /boot - Boot partition /dev/sdc1 : /boot-backup - Alternate boot partition /dev/md0 (/dev/sdb1 + /dev/sdd1) : / Root filesystem When booting 13.1 the boot hanghs when trying to mount /boot-backup. Message suggests to login and correct problem, but login is not possible (no keyboard input possible). Reason for problem: Under 13.1 the disk /dev/sdc is called /dev/sdb and vice versa and therefore mounting /dev/sdc1 tries to mount a partition that is already mounted as part of /dev/md0 Workaround: Boot system using shell model (instead of default) and correct /etc/fstab content. Suggested solution (possible options, in order of preference): - Avoid changing order between disks so that naming does not change between versions - Ignore any mounts that fail during booting rather than hanging the system and log appropriate message so that issue can be corrected once the system is up (unless mount point is critical for running the system, as /, /usr /var, /etc - Allows login to correct problem Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: See under Details.
