Most importantly, it was discovered that 2.8.12.0 had a bad implementation of a CMake Policy it introduced: CMP0022. This is the worst kind of bug because the fix causes a change in behavior for projects in a way that is incompatible with 2.8.12.0 (but still compatible with 2.8.11.2 and lower).
Therefore we need to get 2.8.12.0 replaced with 2.8.12.1 as soon as possible to prevent anyone from depending on the former's incorrect behavior.
