--- Comment #44 from Lee Matheson 2013-10-15 10:46:48 UTC ---
I noted same boot problem reported above by Ulf Michel (comment#35) on a
colleagues Sony Pro 13 ultrabook with Windows8 and UEFI BIOS, when booting from
a 64-bit openSUSE-13.1 beta1 and also openSUSE-13.1 RC1 installation iso (both
on separate USB sticks). This was with secure boot enabled and also with secure
boot disabled. I also note openSUSE-12.3 booted fine from a USB stick on this
Sony Pro 13 Ultrabook.
The 13.1 B1/RC1 installation iso's appear to stop booting after the 'echo
loading kernel...' line and on the 13.1 B1/RC1 liveKDE iso's (also on a USB
stick) stop after the 'echo Loading linux...' line.
I do not understand this thread well enough to apply Ulf Michel's fix
(comment#41) where he reported "solved the problem with shim (with secure boot
off)" . I looked at comment#30, but as to what files to copy from
(https://build.opensuse.org/request/show/201535) to the 13.1 RC1 USB sticks to
make them bootable on the Sony Pro 13 with 13.1 B1/RC1 was not clear to me.
As an aside (to illustrate effect of a different manufacturer UEFI
implementation), I also note the same noted USB sticks above (openSUSE-12.3,
openSUSE-13.1 beta1/rc1) boot ok to a Toshiba Z930 Ultrabook (with Windows8 and
UEFI BIOS and secure boot enabled).
