In Bug 791253 - Thunderbird stays active in the background
it was suggested I remove TrackerBird Add-on to remove the issue described in
this bug. Removing TrackerBird using "rpm -e tracker-miner-thunderbird" did
stop Thunderbird 23.0 Crashes/Hangs.
After a recent "zypper up" under OpenSUSE 12.3 x86_64 I noticed Thunderbird
23.0 was upgraded to Thunderbird 24.0 and the hanging issue returned. After
checking, I discovered TrackerBird was re-installed into the updated
Thunderbird 24.0.
I "Disabled" TrackerBird Add-On, then had to manually kill the
/usr/lib64/thunderbird/thunderbird-bin process, then ran "rpm -e
tracker-miner-thunderbird" again, successfully. The next restart of
Thunderbird 24.0 is now working properly again without TrackerBird.
The "problem" as I see it (as always, I could be wrong) is that the OpenSUSE
12.3 update process re-installs TrackerBird Add-on to Thunderbird.
It would be really nice if updates didn't re-install TrackerBird, at least
until TrackerBird is fixed.
More data for anybody looking into this, since it was mentioned in this Bug
thread... my Inbox has 7442 messages. It's still plenty fast operating off
SSD, 8-cores@3.1GHz, 8GB 2133 DDR-3 RAM (everything running within spec, no
overclocking). My setup sure gives TrackerBird fits, assuming this is
contributing to the problem!
