https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=823354 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=823354#c0 Summary: vmw_balloon.ko cannot be loaded Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.2 Version: Final Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: dieter.jurzitza@t-online.de QAContact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:21.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/21.0 The script /etc/init.d/vmtoolsd attempts to load vmw_balloon.ko after loading vmblock. However, vmw_balloon.ko cannot be loaded. Therefore the command /etc/init.d/vmtoolsd start ends with the ENODEV - error message. An attempt to do so ends with the error ENODEV. I guess the reason is found within vmw_balloon.c: if (x86_hyper != &x86_hyper_vmware) return -ENODEV unfortunately I did not find any hint explaining what could be wrong. Maybe the loading of an additional kernel module would be neccessary, but this does not show. Thank you for looking into this. Take care Dieter Jurzitza Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. call /etc/init.d/vmtoolsd start (output: Job failed. See system journal and 'systemctl status' for details.) 2. modprobe vmw_balloon results in /FATAL: Error inserting vmw_balloon (/lib/modules/3.4.42-2.28-desktop/kernel/drivers/misc/vmw_balloon.ko): No such device Actual Results: See above Expected Results: vmw_balloon to be loaded -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
