--- Comment #134 from Felix Miata 2013-03-29 01:52:16 UTC ---
Just happened again in 12.2 64 bit Intel family 6 model 23 stepping 10:
host big41 on #2 12.2 installation last updated more than 90 days ago
This time before zypper up:
1-locked kernel-desktop (3.4.6-2.10.1) first
2-removed all instances of --noadjfile from /etc/init.d/ntp
On completion I rebooted, then discovered the up had replaced /etc/init.d/ntp
with a version containing no instances of --noadjfile.
I unlocked kernel, did zypper up again, and rebooted. No journals needed
recovering during init.
NTP service is failing to start, system time was off by UTC offset, and a
multiminute delay on all reboots and shutdowns is occurring. I reinstalled
package ntp-4.2.6p5-3.14.1 but it hasn't helped, with ntp failing on every
boot. It was coming up with local time error = UTC offset even though
/etc/adjtime and /etc/sysconfig/clock files on it and the other 12.2 on the
same host match and the other doesn't have this failure. /etc/adjtime had been
UTC here, and after a kernel reinstallation with it changed to LOCAL the time
error stopped happening. After more than three hours of long reboots and trying
to find a reason for ntp failure and boot/shutdown delays, I've given up for
now. This one's only reason for existence was to have XFCE as the exclusive DE,
and this ntp problem should be unrelated to this bug's topic.
On same host in 12.2 #1 last updated comment 123 I looked in /etc/init.d/ntp
and found no instances of --noadjfile.
