Given the fact that it appears like the kernel never even gets a chance to
execute (the reboot is triggered instantly as soon as the bootloader has loaded
it 100% into memory), I have a strong hunch that it has something to do with
the EFI capabilities (or requirements??) of the boot/installation process. I
was poking around the 12.3 installer ISO and everything appears to be
EFI-enabled... The system in question (where I am having the issue) is the only
one of my 4 systems that is not a UEFI machine (it is just standard BIOS/MBR),
and it also happens to be the only one that exhibits the problem at hand. Not
just a coincidence methinkst.... Also, 12.3 appears to be the first release
geared largely towards EFI systems.
