https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=811339 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=811339#c0 Summary: jbd2 thread performing constant IO - System Temporarily Freezes Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.3 Version: Final Platform: 64bit OS/Version: SUSE Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: fedev@gmx.net QAContact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:19.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/19.0 I'm not sure when this started, but is like the HDD is writing every few seconds, even when the laptop has plenty of free RAM and the swap volume is not in use. What I noticed is that the system stops responding, could be anything from a right click menu that takes a few seconds to come up to a simple request such as requesting for ls -al on my home folder. I was trying to figure out which application was performing the writes and then I saw the top top threads were from jbd2 (jbd2/dm-1-8 and jbd2/dm-2-8). I searched on google and found a few posts and one of them suggested to use the following kernel boot option: transparent_hugepage=never In one of the posts (http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse/2012-03/msg00890.html), Lars Müller (Samba Team and the person who suggested the kernel boot option) requested to create a bug report about it. While I'm still testing, I have not experienced the same issues since yesterday. ====================================== ====================================== System details: Kernel: 3.7.10-1.1-desktop ====================================== SMART: The disk has some bad sectors however it seems to be within the limits.
