When I ran "rcnetwork restart" all info I received was:
redirecting to systemctl restart network
Which is pretty useless information.
It is not useless, it shows the service that is currently used as the network.service, that is, it shows you the redirects to NetworkManager.
All I (or any other user) care about is, whether everything was OK.
echo $? You may also use "rcnetwork status" or "systemctl status network.service" after to see the verbose status. systemct does not provide any output of the service it starts by default, just the error code. See systemd documentation how to configure it to show the outputs on the console.
Whether interface is up, whether lease from dhcp succeeded, which IP did I receive ....
