This *is* an EFI machine. Two partitions, sda1 is swap and sda2 is btrfs. Then I booted into the 12.3 rescue environment (via tftp/pxe), mounted sda2 (root) on /mnt, and mounted (with -o bind) proc, sys, and dev into /mnt. Then I chrooted into /mnt. This is my normal recovery process. However, yast2 bootloader *refused* to work, stating that the partitioning was an issue (and I noticed an error message about dbus and segfault, but it disappeared very quickly). grub-install /dev/sda2 proceeded without error, but upon reboot, there was no change.
