We're talking not about time stamps of log files, we're talking about time
stamps on fsck and mount of the root file system. Indeed in many timezone you
may see time stamps set into the future or back in history which will then lead
to fsck in minimal case but may cause data loose in maximal trouble case due
modern journaling file systems.
AFAICR it was Ted Ts'o[1] which scold on the distributors that they warp the
kernels system clock after mounting the root file system. Otherwise the
warping the kernels system clockhad never been moved into the initial ram disk.
