What you see is booting via UEFI vs. legacy BIOS. From USB it doesn't see the
EFI image and falls back to legacy BIOS while from DVD it boots the EFI image.
In the EFI case the installer probably wants to convert your disk to GPT
partitioning. I think we don't have grub2-efi going in 12.2, so it proposes
only elilo.
In general, it's better to be consistent. If you don't want EFI, better turn
it off in your BIOS config. But if you do, you'll also need GPT disk
partitioning.
That said, you can add 'efi=0' or 'efi=1' to the boot options to force the
installer either way. But I don't think that's a good idea.
