Hi Michael,
I am not sure if I understood correctly, especially:
"This results in invalid display of formulas."
Sorry I was not convinced that we should replace the default <?> to {?}. They
have different meanings from the libreoffice documentation:
Angle brackets
Inserts a placeholder within angle brackets. You can also type langle <?>
rangle in the Commands window.
Group brackets
Inserts group brackets. You can also type {<?>} in the Commands window.
For example,
1. When you click a square brought by <?> in upper frame of Math, the
corresponding <?> in the lower frame (edit frame) will be highlighted as a
whole. That's a placeholder you should replace it as a whole instead of replace
the question mark only.
2. It might be irrelevant but FYI.
The display of:
{<?> times <?>} over {<?> * <?> }
differs from the display of:
<?> times <?> over <?> * >
So would you let me know your thoughts and if I misunderstood anything?
