Ah, sorry - this is a plain OS 12.1, so KDE is 4.7.2
I tried locking widgets, but that doesn't change the bahavior of the panel.
('Windows can cover' is not an option for me).
I had one crash of the panel, and when it restarted, it showed the same error
agai until I (again) manually moved it to the upper border.
And to specify more clearly what it does:
- if there is no visible window touching the top, the panel will show up at top
- if there is a window touching the top, the panel will show up in the first
free row. I.e., if there is only one window (touching the top) the panel will
be just below this window. If there is another window which begins higher than
the lower border of that first window, the panel will be below that other
window. If the second window starts lower than the lower border of the first,
the panel will be between the two.
- If there is no free row (e.g., a maximized window, or two with one touching
the top, one touching the bottom, and the lower one starting higher than the
lower border of the top one) the panel will show up at top
In any case, the panel position stays volatile until I manually move it to the
top again. It does remember the last position where it was, i.e., when you
approach that position the bluish glow is visible. But when it actually
unfolds, it will jump to the location as specified above (and of course
immediately hide again as the mouse is no longer on the panel...)
