--- Comment #6 from Johannes Meixner 2012-02-01 12:41:46 UTC ---
By channce I found something regarding "lpd"
in your attachment #473542
in https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=744301#c3
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
D [31/Jan/2012:13:38:02 +0000] [Job 129] Set job-printer-state-message
to "Connected to printer.", current level=INFO
D [31/Jan/2012:13:38:02 +0000] [Job 129] Connected to 192.168.0.4:515
(local port 1023)...
..
D [31/Jan/2012:13:38:02 +0000] [Job 129] lpd_command 02
D [31/Jan/2012:13:38:02 +0000] [Job 129] Sending command string (2 bytes)...
D [31/Jan/2012:13:38:02 +0000] [Job 129] Reading command status...
D [31/Jan/2012:13:38:02 +0000] [Job 129] Set job-printer-state-message
to "Printer did not respond after 300 seconds.", current level=WARN
D [31/Jan/2012:13:38:02 +0000] [Job 129] lpd_command returning 2
D [31/Jan/2012:13:38:02 +0000] [Job 129] Backend returned status 1 (failed)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I.e. you use the CUPS backend "lpd" to access your printer
and this failed during "lpd_command 02".
In the CUPS sources backend/lpd.c there is:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
/*
* Read back the status from the command and return it...
*/
fputs("DEBUG: Reading command status...\n", stderr);
alarm(timeout);
if (recv(fd, &status, 1, 0) < 1)
{
_cupsLangPrintFilter(stderr, "WARNING",
_("Printer did not respond after %d seconds."),
timeout);
status = errno;
}
alarm(0);
fprintf(stderr, "DEBUG: lpd_command returning %d\n", status);
return (status);
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
This explains the wrong WARNING text about "300 seconds".
But basically it means the LPD in your printer returned "2"
(instead of a zero byte) so that the CUPS lpd backend failed
to send data to your printer via LPD protocol.
Regarding the wrong WARNING text about "300 seconds"
I will file an upstream bug report at
http://www.cups.org/
