https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=744351 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=744351#c0 Summary: Bridged network blocked by SFW2's last update Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.1 Version: Final Platform: i686 OS/Version: openSUSE 12.1 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Security AssignedTo: security-team@suse.de ReportedBy: a_nw_ga_guy@yahoo.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux i686; rv:9.0.1) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/9.0.1 I had to re-install 12.1 and update the system with all necessary updates, except you CAN NOT ACCEPT SuSE FIREWALL 2's UPDATE. This update enables package control, and will disable all cards when the firewall is disabled! (read file the description in Yast). *** Requested inclusion in future additions... a way to disable this feature in Firewall & Network settings GUI's (or at least in network area), so that you may use custom iptables for the bridge. The message displayed when you disable SFW2 is "No network traffic is permitted through these interfaces." This is a nice security feature for those that aren't familiar, however, it prevents one ever building and using a network bridge with custom iptables. Could you please include a check box or radio button to disable the network being disabled when SuSE FW2 is disabled, please? And on a side note, not related: Many people are having problems with Realtek Gigabit ethernet cards w/ driver r8169 ... your drivers are fine!!! Do not waste any time on them. it's a problem elsewhere, perhaps systemd vs sysvinit-init that people are using. Ifup does not like DHCP at all in 12.1 original release. However KNetworkManager works to establish the connection... except that you must go back to ifup to use your bridge.
