https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=740102 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=740102#c0 Summary: Kernel 3.2 boot error, intel_iommu=off required on i7 Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.1 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: SuSE Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: tadeas.moravec@email.cz QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:9.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/9.0 Kernel 3.2 from the Kernel:/HEAD/standard repository can't boot unless I either disable virtualization in BIOS or supply intel_iommu=off kernel parameter. It apparently freezes in some infinite loop, repeating two or three lines very fast (and it's pretty much imposible to read them). This error was noticed by others, there's a Phoronix article about it: http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=MTAzNzk I haven't found any LKML post about it, so I'm reporting it here. There are more details in the Phoronix article. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Install kernel 3.2 on a computer with i7 CPU 2. Reboot 3. Actual Results: An infinite loop during boot Expected Results: Normal boot I use Lenovo Thinkpad T420 laptop with only the Intel graphic card (Intel HD Graphics 3000) enabled in BIOS. This report probably should be filled against Factory, but I haven't found the corect Operating System or Product Version parameter. Please change it accordingly. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
