The 12.1 is a fresh install. The problem was: From /var/log/mail: Dec 28 17:41:22 *** postfix/lmtp[14869]: 8F88D928F: to=, ... status=deferred (connect to mail.***[/var/lib/imap/socket/lmtp]: Permission denied) So postfix couldn't deliver received mail to cyrus-imapd for further processing (as far as I understand the mail system). To fix this I had to change 2 things: 1) Make user 'postfix' a member of the 'mail' group. 2) change the owner & group of the socket from 'root:root' to 'cyrus:mail'. The second fix I will have to apply manually every time postfix and/or cyrus is restarted. I'm not really sure if this is a bug in the default configuration or something I copied wrong from my 11.3 setup or maybe something completly different. I also don't know what would be a more permanent fix for 2)...
