https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=732666 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=732666#c0 Summary: wrong hd's number in installation's grub/menu.lst if /boot is on USB device Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.1 Version: Final Platform: i586 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: Susan.Dittmar@gmx.de QAContact: jsrain@suse.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686 (x86_64); de; rv:1.8.1.5) Gecko/20070713 Firefox/2.0.0.5 On openSUSE 12.1 (and 11.3), installed from DVD iso (586). Made installation with /boot on an USB flash disk (/dev/sdb2 at time of installation). So installer wrote "(hd1,1)" to /boot/grub/menu.lst But at boot time, this flash disk is the first one (managed by boot configuration of the BIOS). This means it only finds its /boot partition if that is referred to as (hd0,1). Same problem arizes with every kernel update (tested only on 11.3, suspected on 12.1). This value gets falsely rewritten when kernel is updated. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Install to system with USB flash disk. 2. Choose hard disk for /, and USB flash disk for /boot 3. Start installation and check for /boot/grup/menu.lst Actual Results: Entries bear refrences to (hd1,...) Expected Results: references to (hd0,...) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
