I am running into the same problem when using the XFCE Desktop. The problem is
related to the fact that changing the cursor in XFCE (probably in KDE too) does
not update ~/.icons/default to point to the selected cursor theme, so the plain
X11 Cursor is used sometimes (for example in the window header and on the login
screen)
IMHO, a long-term solution would be:
1.) /etc/sysconfig/windowmanager has a configuration entry X_MOUSE_CURSOR which
is set to the systemwide used cursor theme
1.1.) SuSEconfig should make the correct links under /usr/share/icons to
respect this setting
1.2.) For example if X_MOUSE_CURSOR is set to "Adwaita", there should be a
symlink /usr/share/icons/default which points to /usr/share/icons/Adwaita
2.) The mouse cursor configuration tool from the desktop environment (e.g.
XFCE) should update ~/.icons/default to point to the selected theme
2.1.) If Adwaita is selected, there should be a symlink from ~/.icons/default
which points to /usr/share/icons/Adwaita
