Patches 3e35b6559ad1ebfbad47e8edb2b002d7c07c984c and 1eb0cc30d9a2f6a2a6c1f7ec0e4003b1081c5738 from parted git, back-ported to 2.4, present in openSUSE 12.1, seem to fix the problem: openSUSE 12.1 (parted-2.4-17.1.x86_64 + patches, 3.1.0-rc9-1-desktop)
