https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=725963 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=725963#c0 Summary: Grub2-EFI install failure when /boot/efi/ is populated Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.1 Version: RC 1 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Bootloader AssignedTo: jsrain@suse.com ReportedBy: vljn@ovi.com QAContact: jsrain@suse.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:7.0.1) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/7.0.1 Hi, when I try to install grub2-efi on (obviously) an uefi system, I get an error message (from install dvd booted in uefi mode) I don't remember very well, but it says something like "failed to unpack to /boot/efi/ - chown : operation not allowed. /boot/efi is the mount point of the EFI boot partition on UEFI system. EFI specs says that this partition's filesystem has to be FAT or VFAT, a filesystem which does not support user permission at all. Of course by not mounting anything to /boot/efi, then manually copying the grub2-efi directory to EFI boot partition works (as long as you update EFI bootloader entry using efibootmgr), but as openSUSE assumes that /boot/efi points to EFI partition, there is an issue with the way grub2-efi is installed on the system. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Installs grub2-efi on a already uefi booted system with /boot/efi populated 2. 3. Expected Results: No error message. Rpm should unpack any file to some intermediate directory, then call a script that copy this directory to /boot/efi ignoring user permission. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
