I'm also seeing this behavior.
* Installed openSUSE 12.1 Beta1 using GNOME as the default window manager
* Started "yast2" from terminal (as root) and clicked on any module / icon.

Note: This is printed on the terminal and *not* in y2log. In fact, there is no
log messages in y2log just after invoking "yast2" - even after setting
"Y2DEBUG=2".
This doesn't happen if you install yast2-qt package and invoke:
# yast2 --qt
