pin2 (as in yast2) is a re-write of pin and it includes zypper. It first looks
up information with rpm and if it does not find any, it will use zypper and
zgrep on ARCHIVES.gz to get information.
It also shows several README files, colors executables and directories and
highlights the word you searched for all in a readable manner.
It will hang if zypper fails because of the 'twirling'.
To test I use first a program that is installed (e.g. vim) then a file that is
installed (e.g. suse.vimrc) then a program that is not installed (e.g. ppracer)
and finaly something that does not exists (e.g. ppxxtt)
I have removed the need for dialog as I think it was a bit overkill for just
one question.
Possible enhancements:
1) Get out of the loop with the twirling thing if there is an error
2) Better error detection for files and netowork connection
3) Download the ARCHIVES.gz file if it does not exist. The download from the
DVD with pin never worked for me
4) Cleanup of the code to standards that actual scriptwriters will use. ;-)
5) Anything else, as long as it shows layout in a human-readable manner.
Do with it as you please. Perhaps enhancing zypper would be a better option?
