This is not about the "pop" anymore.
I just don't expect to be assaulted with excessive volume, which is painfully loud and potentially damaging to my ears.
And with 'flat-volumes = yes' any stinking little application that wants it can increase the master volume to 100%. This works on any computer, not just my old laptop.
If we were discussion such an issue regarding a car's cruise control arbitrarily increasing the speed of the car, it would be fixed by now.
But in fact it is the exact same thing.
The decision to set the _master_ volume is USER territory.
But any apps can change the master volume even if you set flat = no. After all, mixer apps are also applications, and they can change everything. Of course, I do understand your point, i.e. flat=no is safer. But, partly it's an application problem, so setting flat=no is no "solution". It makes things a bit safer. That's all. So, honestly, I don't care which value is set. It's why I asked for FATE at first. It's no bug fix but rather the default behavior change from the upstream setup. Scott, maybe you can judge much better about this than me. Feel free to change the default. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
