https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=699159 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=699159#c0 Summary: knetworkmanager and its plasmoid pendant packages conflict Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.4 Version: Factory Platform: i686 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.4 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Network AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: squan@web.de QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) KHTML/4.6.80 (like Gecko) Konqueror/4.6 SUSE NetworkManager frontends knetworkmanager (package NetworkManager-kde4-0.9) and its plasmoid pendant (plasmoid-networkmanagement-0.9.2) cannot be installed in parallel: zypper will report a package conflict for these two (no such problem with cnetworkmanager though). Unfortunately together with other current issues this leads to lose of network connection w/o possibility to reconnect: 1) Having WLAN connected I wanted to install networkmanager-plasmoid to test it. The package conflict forced me to accept knetworkmanager removal 2) plasmoid turned out not to properly start (issue to be investigated) At this point WLAN connection was already down as a consequence of knetworkmanager removal. 3) Fallback to LAN was not possible because obviously eth0 was deactivated by shutdown of knetworkmanager 4) The deactivation of eth0 is so thorough, that it is reported as "eth0: link is not ready" which pretends a hardware problem! Even switching network control to classic ifup/ifdown with yast2 does not remedy this situation (still pretending "link not ready")! Only by rebooting its possible to get "ifup eth0" working again. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3. Expected Results: 1) Packages of NetworkManager frontends should not conflict 2) plasmoid-networkmanagement startup should not fail 3) NetworkManager client should not leave eth0 blocked -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
