Now I have changed back to suse 11.3, here the CPU usage is also bit heavy on
scrolling. But in 11.3 the scrolling process didn't freeze the window for some
seconds like it did in 11.4. (that's the reason, I didn't realize it earlier)
I use the standard driver in both 11.3 and 11.4 (now it is
xorg-x11-driver-video-radeonhd), because I have some bad experiences with
proprietary drivers. I found out that my graphic card(ATI Mobility Radeon HD
4570) is supported by the standard driver, but the state is experimental. The
proprietary driver didn't support the 4570, only the 4500. So I didn't want to
try the proprietary driver, because on Ubuntu 10.10, they had some bad
side-effects with some software (like texmaker)
The process that takes the cpu time is every time the process that holds the
window in which I scroll. For example, if I scroll in Firefox, Firefox takes
the cpu time, if I scroll in Thunderbird, Thunderbird takes the cpu time and so
on.
I hope I could help a little bit.
