https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=690258 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=690258#c0 Summary: KPackageKit repo selection problem Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.4 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.4 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: KDE4 Applications AssignedTo: kde-maintainers@suse.de ReportedBy: d.dewey@caprus.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US) AppleWebKit/534.13 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/9.0.597.107 Safari/534.13 I was getting numerous updates offered up by KPackageKit nearly every day.. so many in fact that it was really annoying, particularly as certain files seemed to be updated over and over again daily. I right clicked on the little KPackageKit notification icon in the panel, and I selected "Configure". The mix of boxes that were checked in the "Origin of Packages" window made no sense to me, but they explained why I was getting such a strange mix of updates every day. For instance: Packman, NVidia, and 3 others were enabled, but the Update repo was not, and some of those with their boxes checked aren't even currently enabled or even set to refresh in Yast. I unchecked all the seemingly random repos that had been selected, and I checked/selected only one repo. I just came back from a few hours of running errands and found that KPackageKit was offering five new updates already. When I looked at the items on the list I got suspicious, so I rechecked the "Origin of Packages" window and found that two of the repos I'd unchecked just this morning are once again "mysteriously check marked by some unknown hand". Now this was certainly annoying but doubly so since: A user has to enter the root password to make changes to the list, I'm the only person on the face of the globe who knows that password, and I'd obviously not done so. In other words the changes were completely spontaneous and unauthorized, yet they'd been made just the same. Five minutes later I again rechecked the list and, lo and behold, one of the repos I'd just unchecked was now checked again! I re-unchecked it. The next morning I had occassion to open Yast, and I discovered that my repo selection there had been altered. The selection of repos being refreshed is unchanged, however the only one left enabled is the one I'd left still checked in KPackagekit. Three others I had previously enabled in YAST, but which I'd unchecked in KPackagekit are now disabled. Based on this I conclude that the KPackagekit program is supposed to be tied in to YAST, however the implementation is still very imperfect. (reminder: as I stated above when I first looked at the "Origin of Packages" window the repos checked did not correspond to those enabled in Yast (???)) Reproducible: Sometimes Steps to Reproduce: 1.alter selection in the "Origin of Packages" window 2.or change repo selection n YAST 3.observe effect on other app. Actual Results: random and spontaneous unauthorized changes to selection in other app Expected Results: on unauthorized changes to repo selection. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
