Hello Bin Li,
I have had other problems with my system and so decided that I would
re-install openSUSE 11.4 from the CD .iso which I had downloaded before.
1. This time I created a 'new' user rather than letting the install find the
existing home folder for what was my previous user. This installation is
working properly.
2. I then tried adding a user to match my 'old' home directory and tested that.
I managed to get this to work as expected, but I had to add the NetworkManager
widget to the taskbar manually. I found that when using this 'old' user there
were still problems with other applications.
3. I have moved all the files I want from the 'old' user to the 'new' user and
changed ownership. Using Kmail archive and import I have moved all my mail
messages.
My analysis is that there was something in my 'old' user home directory which
was causing problems to the installation and the operation of the system.
Having started with a 'clean sheet' everything is OK. The 'old' user has been
around from openSUSE 10. days which may explain the problems. I now cannot
reproduce the problem.
The problem instance is now solved, but the issue remains of why it was
necessary to start with a 'new' user?
Best wishes
John
