Well, in my case, this was a user configuration error. I had "blacklist radeon"
in my modprobe.d from some earlier problem that I had tried to avoid by
blacklisting radeon. I had forgotten about this because I saw the radeon driver
being loaded. It turns out that happened when X is started, which appears to be
too late for radeon to be 100%initialized when X tries to initialize it.
Without "blacklist radeon", the radeon driver is started much earlier by udev,
and it is done initializing when X is started.
@alejandro, are you also seeing "RADEONDRIGetVersion failed because of a
version
mismatch" in your /var/log/Xorg.0.log?
