Well, not really.
As long as the package name is different and there's no "Provides", automated
stuff like zypper won't be able to find "python-whateverthename" when looking
for "pygtk2".
So people will still need to look for it and adapt. In my case, problem fixed,
I added a "if opensuse then requires python-gtk else requires pygtk2"
That's why "Provides: [most common name cross distro]" is imo the best solution
for legacy packages name. That's why I reported this, to insist so zypper can
do all the work by itself ;)
Having the exact match of the package name (pygtk2) in the description help
because cross distro packages database like the one in my link above will be
able to find it amongst other result, and at least users won't spend too much
time searching.
As for python-gtk(2)... well after failing to find pygtk2, you end up looking
for
pygtk, python, gtk, that would end up showing in search result.
