--- Comment #7 from Alex Müller 2011-04-15 13:24:46 UTC ---
The Ubuntu patch, although for an older kernel version, has been committed
March/April 2011, so I can't really judge whether openSUSE kernels already
contain this change.
I'm running the tests given above right now with Dolphin as filemanager
initiating the copy of 6GB file to the NFS share.
The rpcdebug-line floods /var/log/messages with the following:
Apr 15 15:12:59 linux kernel: [ 2314.371107] device eth0 entered promiscuous
mode
Apr 15 15:13:00 linux kernel: [ 2314.792605] device eth0 left promiscuous mode
Right now the copy process is still running (over powerline, so not really
fast) and the computer is basically still responsive. "top" does not show any
excessive CPU usage, however the KDE4-sysinfo-plasmoid always shows at least
two of my four CPU cores at 100%, not corresponding to the "top"-output.
Dolphin itself as the "initiator" of the copy has frozen the next time I tried
to use it in order to access the NFS share to monitor the progress of the
copying. Using Dolphin now takes about 5 minutes per action.
The NAS itself is, however, very much alive and can be accessed flawlessly with
the web interface.
