The ubuntu forums link seems to be a different problem - they mostly mention
NFSv4 and using 'cp' is slow to, while it isn't for you.
You are using NFSv3.
The ubuntu bug numbers aren't useful as I don't use their bug system and don't
know where it is. http links might help.
Does the 'sysinfo plasmoid' show cpu usage (a percentage) or load average (a
number that could often go up to 5-10 with no problem, but 20-50 would be bad)?
In either case, what number(s) is it actually showing?
It might be helpful to capture a network trace so that I can see what is
happening on the wire.
While things are sluggish run
tcpdump -w /tmp/dump -s 0 -c 500 port 2049
You might need to "-i interfacename" to that e.g. "-i wlan0".
You might need to set the command up first so that you only need to press
<enter> while the machine is sluggish.
Then compress /tmp/dump and attach it to this bug.
It might also be useful to run
rpcdebug -m nfs -s all ; rpcdebug -m rpc -s all ; sleep 30 ; rpcdebug -m nfs
-c ; rpcdebug -m rpc -c
and then collect the message in /var/log/message and compress/attach them.
Something in there might be useful.
