Summary|Brocken autodetect driver |OpenPrintingPPDs-hpijs was

--- Comment #1 from Johannes Meixner 2011-04-12 07:38:05 UTC ---
Printer driver packages have never been installed
in an automated way.
There is no and there never was any kind of guarantee
that automatic printer setup really works, see
http://en.opensuse.org/YaST_Printer
Some printer driver packages are installed by default
other printer driver packages are not installed by default.
If needed, the latter ones must be installed manually, see
http://en.opensuse.org/YaST_Printer#Driver
-------------------------------------------------------------------
If you do not find a driver description which looks reasonable
for your printer model or a driver description which you expect
to be available, you may click the "Driver Packages" button
to check whether or not you may have to install more printer
driver software packages.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
This behaviour did not change.
It works as intended. There is no bug.
Therefore this bug report is "invalid".
For openSUSE 11.4 printer driver packages have been cleaned up,
see "Replacement of the cups-drivers package" at
http://en.opensuse.org/Portal:Printing
Which printer driver packages are installed by default
depends on the so called "patterns", see bnc#652292
According to
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=652292#c2
the package OpenPrinting-PPDs is installed by default
and this one recommends all its sub-packages
OpenPrintingPPDs-hpijs
OpenPrintingPPDs-postscript
OpenPrintingPPDs-ghostscript
so that by default all those printer driver packages
should be installed by default - except you tell the
package installer (YaST/zypper) explicitly
not to install also recommended packages.
On my openSUSE 11.4 system I have all OpenPrintingPPDs packages
installed so that it seems to work at least for me.
In the end this bug report is "invalid"
and furthermore it "worksforme".
